SA OPALS ELIMINATED!

SQUIDGIES OPALS ROLL OVER

In a pathetic Season 2024 showing, the Squidgies Opals, South Australia’s pride in the inaugural season of Australia’s Reel Gauntlet, have been eliminated without even casting a line. The team failed to submit a single fish in both the male and female competitions, resulting in a forfeit that has left the rest of the country stunned.

While the state’s pride takes a hit, hope remains for individual glory. The South Australian Golden Rod Award is still up for grabs, offering a prize that could turn the tide for astute anglers. The prestigious award includes a Shimano pack valued at $2,048, featuring a Vanford 2500 reel, T Curve Premium 7’2 2-4kg Rod, Stradic 5000 SW reel, T Curve Premium 7’6 6-12kg Rod, and a Shimano tackle wallet.

The question on everyone’s mind: will this prize go unclaimed, or will a South Australian angler rise to the challenge? As the season progresses, the opportunity for individual anglers to make their mark and “pick up The Gauntlet” has never been more enticing.

Stay tuned as we watch the quest for the Golden Rod unfold, with individual category continuing until lines out on November 31. Could the next fishing legend emerge from the depths of this disappointment? Only time will tell.

How the Tournament Works

  • Final Rounds: The top six states move into the elimination finals, starting in July. This round is all about seeding – no one gets eliminated just yet.
  • August Elimination: All six teams compete. The bottom two teams are eliminated, securing fifth and sixth places.
  • Quarter-Finals in September: Seeded teams face off to determine the Semi-Final matchups. No eliminations this month, just positioning for the next round.
  • Brutal Semi-Finals in October: The top two teams from September face off, and the remaining two teams battle for a spot in the Grand Final. Two teams are eliminated here, with the third-place team decided from the losing top-seeded matchup.
  • Grand Final in November: The ultimate showdown. The remaining two states compete for the prestigious title of Holder of the Gauntlet.
